General Information
Located in the São Paulo metro area, the Capuava Refinery (Recap) went on stream on December 18, 1954. It currently accounts for trading about 30% of the volume of fuel consumed in the Greater São Paulo area. On account of how easy it was to obtain feedstock in the region, its installation in Mauá (São Paulo) attracted other industries, thus forming the Grande ABC Petrochemical Complex.

Terminals it is connected to
The refinery is connected to the Barueri, Cubatão, and São Caetano do Sul terminals.
Brief background:
The refinery's history started in 1947 as a result of a private initiative led by the Sampaio Soares brothers. Refinaria Exploração de Petróleo União S/A would be capable of processing 20,000 barrels per day.
Nearly three decades later, on June 3, 1974, we took the unit over and renamed it Capuava Refinery.
Today, its throughput is 8,500 cubic meters of oil daily, approximately 53,000 barrels of oil per day.
Connected to the Barueri, Cubatão, and São Caetano do Sul terminals, Capuava Refinery products supply the Grande ABC Petrochemical Complex and part of the São Paulo metro region, the largest consumer market in South America.
It was the first refinery to install, in 1999, a Waste Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (URFCC). The main feature of this unit is that it cracks heavy oil fractions, specifically Atmospheric Residue (RAT), eliminating the vacuum unit and increasing oil product production with higher added value, such as gasoline and cooking gas (LPG). Today, 90% of the oil processed there is domestic, ensuring high profitability to the refinery.
Technical Features
Total Area: 3.7 million square meters
For its production, it counts on the atmospheric distillation, URFCC, solvent dearomatization, specialty solvent, water treatment, steam generation, power, and compressed air units.
In 2012, new gasoline and diesel hydrotreatment units, respectively HDS and HDT, and support units (UGH, URE, UTAA, UGN, Co-generation and Osmosis) were deployed.
These new units allow for gasoline and diesel production according to the ANP's specifications.
Installed capacity:
The refinery's throughput is 8,500 cubic meters of oil daily, approximately 53,000 barrels of oil per day.
Main products:
Gasoline and low-sulfur diesel (S-10), turpentine, propylene, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and special solvents.
Markets it serves:
The refinery supplies the Grande ABC Petrochemical Complex and part of the São Paulo metro region.
