Our Energy Transforms Society and the Environment
Through the Petrobras Social and Environmental Program, we contribute to the sustainability of the business, supporting social and environmental initiatives that generate value for the business and for society. We work in partnership with civil society organizations, with the aim of promoting positive social and environmental transformations in society, fostering dialogue with the communities where we operate, and strengthening our reputation by disseminating our values.
The Program is in line with our 2024-2028+ Strategic Plan and our Social Responsibility Policy, which advocates the commitment to supply energy, respecting human rights and the environment, establishing responsible relationships with the communities where we operate, and overcoming sustainability challenges, such as the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The social and environmental investments structured in the Petrobras Social and Environmental Program are governed by the following guidelines:
Within the Petrobras Social and Environmental Program, we have initiatives in four areas of activity: Education, Sustainable Economic Development, Ocean and Forests. In addition, we cover the following cross-cutting topics: Human Rights, Innovation, and Early Childhood.

Our Commitment
In line with our commitment to the Global Compact, we support initiatives that contribute to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that make up the UN 2030 Agenda, which aims to fight poverty and inequality, ensure respect for human rights, promote the conservation of the environment, and face climate change. We prioritize initiatives aimed at SDG 4 (Quality Education), 8 (Sustainable Economic Development), 14 (Life below Water) and 15 (Life on Land).
The Petrobras Social and Environmental Program is also in line with other commitments to which we are signatories, including the UN Women Seven Empowerment Principles, the National Pact for the Eradication of Slave Labor, the Companies for Human Rights Open Letter, the Business Initiative for Racial Equality, and the National Pact for Early Childhood.
The selection and management of the social and environmental investment portfolio happen in compliance with the Petrobras Corruption Prevention Program. Before signing the contract, initiatives undergo prior analysis, and during the term of the contracts they are subject to Petrobras' integrity mechanisms. We also encourage good transparency and compliance practices within partner institutions.

Periodically, Public Selection processes are carried out with specific criteria, deadlines, and regulations. During the period in which there is no Public Selection notice open, proposals can be sent to the Bank of Proposals.

Areas of activity
The Petrobras Social and environmental Program is currently made up of four areas of activity, focusing on strategic topics for the company and on the priorities of the areas where we operate. Check out:
Education is an area of activity that includes initiatives aimed at full human development, preparation for the exercise of citizenship, respect for the environment, promotion of human rights, fighting inequalities, and qualification for decent work. It establishes dialogues between the various players involved in formative processes and values actions that contribute to early childhood development.
Sustainable Economic Development is an area of activity that supports initiatives aimed at strengthening models of production, provision of services, and the formation of inclusive and participatory networks. It promotes job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation in a sustainable way in social and environmental aspects.
Ocean is an area of activity that includes initiatives aimed at the conservation of coastal and marine species and ecosystems. These initiatives contribute to the sustainable development of the oceans and are associated with environmental education.
Forests is the area of activity that includes initiatives aimed at the conservation and recovery of forests and natural areas, protecting their biodiversity. The initiatives focus on the removal and maintenance of carbon stocks and adaptation to climate change, generate environmental and social benefits, and encourage environmental education.

Audiences and cross-cutting topics
All projects offer actions that involve cross-cutting topics. These actions are integrated to the main topic and consider the axis of action. They aim to expand the scope and the transformation potential of the Petrobras Social and Environmental Program.
The work with Priority Audiences happens through affirmative actions, which are defined with focus on:
- Indigenous peoples.
- Traditional Communities.
- Fishermen.
- Women.
- Black people.
- Children.
- People with disabilities.
- LGBTQIA+.
Actions and expansion of direct social and environmental benefits to children from 0 to 6 years of age in projects of all areas of activity.
Development and implementation of sustainable innovative solutions to social and environmental problems associated with thematic areas that involve technological innovation, skills, and new opportunities.
Affirmative and concrete actions in education and awareness of Human Rights with a focus on respect for diversity, combating prejudice and discrimination, and strengthening and rescuing the cultural and social principles of communities.
Histórico
Background
The Petrobras Social and Environmental Program was launched in November 2013, based on the experience of previous programs. It brings together the Petrobras Development & Citizenship, Petrobras Environmental, Petrobras Sports & Citizenship, and Petrobras Community Integration Programs.
From 2014 to 2020, more than BRL 1 billion were invested in social and environmental projects, including actions for the conservation of environments and species, maintenance and recovery of biomes, carbon fixation and avoided emissions, management of water resources, protection and defense of the rights of children and adolescents, work education, environmental education, educational sports, among others.
In total, these projects mobilized more than 975,000 people in education actions and added up to more than 2 million hectares of areas with productive reconversion activities, recovery of degraded areas, and forest conservation or management, protecting around 470 species of fauna and 1,000 species of flora.
